On the Road to Auroville eBook Jon Stein
I used to travel a lot in the past, but now with age, finances and disability keeping me home-bound, reading this book brought back to my mind all the joys and fascinations and quirks of travelling around in another land and culture - even down to giving me a taste or sense of feeling transported beyond the four walls of my living room.I found this a compelling read - but a light humourous travel book without food for the mind and soul it ain't!
What's touching is how the writer really portrays a convincing sense of who he really is, an honesty comes across about his own inner world, the thoughts and reflections about the inner journey going on with what's happening alongside the actual one.
The challenges he meets are various, the pain and isolation described at times reflecting the whole picture of what it can be like to be a solo traveller in a foreign land, make it a realistic and poignant read.
I'd recommend this to anyone who's looking for an undemanding read but with added depth.

On the Road to Auroville eBook Jon Stein Reviews
Loved it
While On The Road to Auroville is an accessible and entertaining travelogue, it also plots Jon Stein's internal journey - and his emotional path was clearly littered with as many rocks and potholes as the highways of India. Jon writes with a natural warmth and wit and although his physical, emotional and spiritual travels took their toll, his greatest bravery was perhaps in writing such a brutally honest account.
